PRODUCT DESIGN: OVERLAYS
Embossing
This is a technique that adds decorative elements to overlays and is often used when added to circuit layers that contain domes or LEDs. Embossing is also effective with a logo or other graphics.
Textured Hard Coat Finishes
Generally used to protect products from harsh chemicals and/or abrasion, a coating can provide a beautiful finished look to any overlay.
Transparent and Dead Front Graphics and Windows
Transparent windows are great for LCD screens or visibility of internal workings of a product. In addition, Dead Front graphics and windows which are only visible when backlit, are often used for graphics such as a warning light.
Filter Windows
Used for anything from warnings to LCD displays to decorative elements these windows can range from water-clear to a color.
Re-Legends
These are inserted into a switch behind the overlay to all changes within that component, and are often seen in things like menus, telephones, and programmable keypads.
